Vodafone also offers mobile broadband, and business broadband.

Connection types

Standard broadband (ADSL) is the most basic, with low top speeds of 8-17Mbps. Speeds are often much lower at busy times of day, or if you live more than 1 mile from the exchange.

Fibre broadband (FTTC / Cable) uses a mix of fibre and copper wiring to deliver a faster, more reliable connection. Most advertise top speeds of 76Mbps, while Virgin’s cable network can go to 350Mbps.

Fibre-to-home broadband (FTTP) offers the highest speeds by running full-fibre cables right into your property. FTTP is currently only available to a very limited number of households.

Average speed:

?

Average speeds

Broadband speeds are now advertised using an average figure, representing the speed achieved by at least 50% of users at peak times.

You may not be able to receive the displayed speed on your connection. Actual speeds will vary by location, but each provider should be able to test your line and give you a more accurate indication of the speed you will achieve.

Gigabit broadband at over 1000Mbps is only available on ‘full-fibre’ or ‘fibre-to-premises’ connections. This connection type is currently only available to a very limited number of households in the UK. We recommend you search using your postcode to check availability.

Monthly Data limit:

?

Data caps

Some providers offer deals with a set quantity of data per month. These deals are rare nowadays for home broadband, as with the advent of HD and 4K video and game streaming, many users will not wish to be limited.

However capped data deals can be cheaper than unlimited ones, so it may be worth considering if you’re not a big streamer.

Deal options

Contract length:

?

Contract terms

Broadband deals are now offered with a range of different contract lengths.

If you find a particularly cheap deal, it can be a good plan to lock it in for 18 months.

If instead you prefer flexibility, 1-month / no-contract broadband deals are fantastic choice, though they do tend to cost more up front.

Gifts & Rewards:

?

Free Gifts / Rewards / Cashback

Some deals are offered with additional incentives such as cashback, gift cards, or trendy tech.

We don’t subtract the value of these extras when calculating the overall first-year costs of each deal – but you might wish to weigh up how much the gift is worth to you when making a decision.

Landline options

Add a calls bundle:

?

Calls bundles

If you’re the type to spend hours chatting on the landline, you can make huge savings by bundling your calls in with your broadband.

Most providers offer a range of calls packages, so whether you’re after the odd evening gossip, or a marathon mid-day gabfest, you should be able to find something to suit.

Always check the provider’s terms – some numbers may not be included in your free call-time.

TV options

Add a TV bundle:

?

TV bundles

For many of us, TV and broadband now go hand in hand. So why not bundle up and grab a deal that covers both?

‘Freeview +’ packages include the usual free-to-air channels available on freeview/freesat, usually with the addition of a small number of premium channels or tv-on-demand apps.

‘Premium’ packages are those that include a wider range of premium or subscription channels, often including specialist bundles for sport, cinema or kids tv.

Most TV packages also include some sort of set-top-box to allow recording/rewinding live broadcasts, but some such as NowTV are sold simply as subscriptions to stream online or through Smart TV devices.

TV channels filter:

?

TV channel filters

If there’s a particular channel you just can’t do without, you can use this filter to find deals which include it.

Please be aware that providers may change the channels available with any given package without prior warning. While we work hard to maintain up-to-date channel lists, you should always check availability with the provider before making any purchase.

Cost formats & sorting

You can choose how the price of each deal is displayed. All prices include line-rental.

Monthly cost is the total cost per month at the beginning of the contract. Some deals will revert to a higher price after an initial offer period.

First year cost is the estimated total cost of the first 12 months on this broadband deal. Comparing first year costs can sometimes give a more accurate idea of how much you will pay overall.

You can also sort your results by price or speed, high to low or low to high.
